THE PRAYER OF AGREEMENT: Of the many prayer promises in the Bible, perhaps none is more significant than (Matthew 18:19). Yet many dedicated believers go through life having a knowledge of the Word -- having read and even studied (Matthew 18:19) -- without really appropriating it in their own lives. God didn't put all of the promises about praying the Bible just to fill up space. They are there for our benefit, they are there for us to develop an effective prayer life. They are there for us to act upon: they are there to practice. To get the full impact of what Jesus is saying in (Matthew 18:19), let's look at the verses preceding and following it. (Matthew 18:18-20). "Verily I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Notice the phrase in verse 19: ". . . It shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." The strongest assertion one can make in the English language is to say "I shall." In this Scripture Jesus promised, ". . . It shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." He also said, "if you shall ask anything in mind name, (in my Word) I will do it" (John 14:14). P. C. Nelson was a Greek scholar who did all his personal Bible reading and private devotions from the Greek New Testament. He said the Greek translation is more beautiful than the English, but it has a number of idioms that cannot be translated into English and retain therefore meaning. Dr. Nelson said the literal Greek reading of Jesus statement is, "if you shall ask anything in my name and I don't have it, I will make it for you." AUTHORITY TO BIND AND LOOSE: (Matthew 18:20) says, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." We usually apply the scripture to a what you called a church service. Of course, it can refer to this, but what Jesus really was saying here is whatever these two or three people are who are agreeing, He is right there with them to make their prayer good. Agreeing with what ? Agreeing with the Word that is written ! Jesus was bringing out the fact that whatever we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Now think with me for a moment the earth and the atmospheric heavens or still under the curse they are controlled by demonic influences demons that pretty much have their hands in things in the atmospheric heavens and earth. The Heavens of heaven where God's throne is will back us up in what we do or say on earth concerning The Word of God. Just as the enemy of humanity will back you up with what you say or do on earth. We have the authority to loose and to bind.
