(Colossians 3:1-2) "If then you have been risen with Christ to a new life, thus sharing his resurrection from the dead, aim at and seek the rich, eternal treasures that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. By setting your desires and your affections on these eternal treasures that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God we become qualified, through our obedience to receive these treasures by the Holy Spirit. If our minds are set on the things of the earth, you will not meet the qualifications that is commanded of us. So, we must set our affections on those things which are above, and not on things of the earth. To be earthly minded, is to be carnally minded it is death; but to be spiritually minded it is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. In other words, the fleshly mind is the enemy of God: it will not submit to the law of faith which is the law of God, neither indeed it cannot. It cannot because of the deeds or the impulses and desires of the body or fleshly appetites it possesses. So then those who are living the life of the flesh catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature cannot please or satisfy God or by acceptable to Him. So we must modify the deeds of our lower nature which is flesh, the flesh was created from the dust of the earth; and it is speaking of the body or flesh because it only wants to do what is earthly. Modification, only comes by the entire renewal of your mind.(Romans 12:1-2) "I appeal to you therefore, brethren and sisters, and beg of you in view of all the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties as a living sacrifice holy [devoted, consecrated] and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable [rational, intelligent service and spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age], fashioned after and adapting to its external, superficial customs, but be transformed [change] by the entire renewal of your mind by its new ideals and its new attitude, so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in His sight for you. To me, it sounds as though the Apostle Paul is saying the same thing that he said to the church of Colossians. The Apostle Paul is simply telling the believers, that they have to modify, which means to change and kill that which is from the earth. Resurrection is a new life that is live for Christ through the Holy Spirit. We resurrect unto a pure heart, we resurrect unto a justified spirit; justified through the blood of Christ and purged, and cleansed with the fire of the Holy Spirit where that which dead will not have power again to resurrect or resurface in your being. So to set your affections is to regain a pure affection a holy affliction and desire to be set on things above. (Romans 6:11 through 16) "even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God living in unbroken fellowship with him in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal shot live perishable bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members and faculties to sin as instruments [tools] of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to perpetual life, and your bodily members and faculties to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness. For sin shall not any longer exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God's favor and mercy]. What then are we to conclude ? Shall we continue to live after the flesh because we are not under the Law but under God's favor and mercy ? Certainly not ! Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves ( your Bodily members and faculties) to any one to do his will, you are the slaves of him who you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness [right doing and right standing with God ?
