THE ENDUEMEANT OF POWEN ON THE EARLY CHURCH: But now all of this has been done away with, and we made ". . . Come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). Just before Jesus died at Calvary, He said, "It is finished." He was not talking about The Plan of Redemption's being finished, because it wasn't finished when He died. He had to raise from the dead and ascending to the heavily Holy of Holies with His own blood as a sacrifice to obtain eternal redemption for us. Then He had to send on high to be seated at the right hand of the Father and begin His Mediatorial Intercession; to be the mediator between God and man. Until then, the new covenant was not in effect. No, when Jesus said on the cross, "It is finished." He was referring to the Old Testament's being finished ! When this happened, the veil, or curtain, That Separated the Holy of Holies was torn in two from top to bottom. The Jewish historian Josephus tells us this curtain was 40 feet wide, 20 feet high, and 4 inches thick. Imagine how difficult it would be for a man to tear something this size in two ! But notice that the Scripture do not say the curtain was torn from the bottom to the top. Rather, ". . . The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the TOP TO THE BOTTOM. . ." (Matthew 27:51). This signified that it was God, not man, who toured down the curtain -- the barrier -- separating man from God ! The presence of God moved out of that man made Holy of Holies never to dwell there again. The buildings are the places that are called God's house or church has been held by traditions of men, because they think that God dwells in those places. Now His divine presence in dwells us. To be filled with the Holy Spirit is much more than just a thrilling experience. The Holy Spirit, the divine personality actually comes to live in you and me ! ". . . For you are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I WILL DWELL IN THEM, AND WALK IN THEM; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people" (2 Corinthians 6:16). How many of us fully realize this marvelous truth ? So many deer believers are bound by man-made traditions, based upon the Mosaic Law ! How many of us recognize the fact that in us -- ready for our use -- is all the power we will ever need to put us over in this life ? If we will begin to believe what the Bible says -- to confess what God's Word says -- the Holy Spirit will raise up within us and give illumination to our mind which is the seat of the will and the emotions and the intellect. He will give directions to our spirits, health to our bodies, and in every aspect of life. We can be conscious of His indwelling presence every moment.
