RESULTS OF UNITED PRAYER: Everyone wants results in their prayer. What was the results of the United prayer of the believer in this fourth chapter of The Book of Acts ? Or is it a different church than we are today ? Was their United prayer answered ? Let's look at verse 31: (Acts 4:31). "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness." In verse 29 revealed that they had prayed, what did they pray ? "And now, Lord, behold their threatening: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak the Word." Did they asked to speak the Name or the Word ! It is true that both are the same for Jesus is the Word and that word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory as the only begotten Son of the Father full of grace and truth. He is a secret and a truth, your body must learn how to call upon the Name or the Word of Christ the anointed and the anointed One ! Many precious people use the name as a rabbits foot. They had not asked the Lord to remove the prosecution or to strike down their enemies. They had not asked the Lord to make their way easy. Instead they had prayed that in the midst of persecution they might preach the Word with boldness. And the Lord had answered their prayer. Verse 31 says that ". . . The place was shaken where they were assembled together. . ." Do you know of any group of people who are praying and seeking anything today ? If Believers today would get together and pray the Scriptures "with one accord," they would say the world for Jesus. That is power in United prayer, but you have to take in account that the Word of God is the power of God ! Notice, too, that their prayer was for something specific. They were definite in their prayed. They were not praying some generalized prayer; the word praying about the need that faced them. They were not asking God to do something like "touch brother so-and-so, or just sister so-and-so." Stop asking God to do something He told you to go do. He said you will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover ! And they all prayed at once. As they lifted their voice to God in fervent prayer, "the place was shaken." In our last lesson we studied about a similar incident. Paul and Silas had been thrown in jail in Philippi for preaching the Gospel. Instead of complaining to the Lord about what had happened to them, they lifted their voice to the Lord in songs of praise. "And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and song praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them" (Acts 16:25). They, too, were praying out loud for "the prisoners heard them." They weren't off in some: mumbling quiet, forlorn pleas to God. The prisoners heard them as the sang praises unto God. Some people say they want to pray quietly because the Lord knows they have a song in their heart. That is not scriptural. But it is that, is going to come out, ". . . Four of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matthew 12:34).
