VAIN REPETITIONS: "But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do (Matthew 6:7). Remember that we are talking about the prayer of petition. Someone says, "What about Jesus ? He prayed the same prayer three times in the Garden of Gethsemane." That was the prayer of dedication--- "Not My will, Lord , but Thine be done." You can pray the prayer of dedication over and over, but when it comes to a petition, the specific and rest in the Word of God. Remember the 400 prophets Baal. Elijah said, "You all for your sacrifice and the god that answers by fire, he will be God." So they cried (prayed), begged, and pleaded, and Elijah said, "Why don't you cry a little louder; maybe he asleep." They began to cry louder and even cut themselves. These are the heathen that Jesus was talking about when He said, "Use not vain repetitions as the heathens do." They just Praying the same thing. They prayed from morning on into the evening to no avail. Do this sounds familiar to some of you ! Then Elijah had 12 barrels of water pour on his sacrifice and prayed a short prayer just once and down came the fine. Well, someone may say. "Elijah was a prophet of God. The Scripture says, that "Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rain not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit." It is not the length of the prayer that moves God. Nor will you be heard for your "much speaking (praying)." God answers prayer on the legal ground of the new covenant based upon the foundation of His Words. We have authority to use the name of Jesus. We have a covenant with the Father through Jesus who is the Word. Jesus has sealed it with His blood, and God will honor the name of Jesus. And the Word has been exalted above the name, that name is above every name: (Revelation 19:13) "And he was clothed with a Vesture dipped in blood; and his name is called The Word of God." Jesus said, "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you; ask what you will and it shall be done unto you ! (John 15:7).
