COME BOLDLY TO OBTAIN : Notice that Jesus didn't say that this actually happened. He asked us the question: "Would you have a friend like that ?" We get the idea that this actually happened, but it did. Jesus is only using this as an illustration. Jesus said, "Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth." Now hold onto the word friend because it is another key to understanding the Scripture. Then Jesus said, "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; Seek, and you shall find; Knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." The amplified Bible reads, "Ask and keep on asking," with a footnote that says, "this is the present imperative and often repeated." It might leave often repeated; but, in this instance, it is not because that would be contrary to other scriptures concerning prayer. (See Mark 11:24; John 15:7-8; 1 John 5:14-15). We must ask, according to the rule of asking ! And that is with the rule or Word of Faith; we must seek with the rule or Word of Faith; we must knock with the rule or the Word of Faith. If you take that, turn to be the true meaning of this scripture, it is already disstorted in your mind. Most people never read the footnote anyway, so they are left with a false impression that will defeat them in their prayer life. When you run into a situation like this, study it carefully and see if it compares to the other teaching of Jesus. Here the translators said it could have meant that, but it did not because it would refute other things Jesus taught concerning prayer. There are a lot of people that are saying pray for me: there are a lot of prayer groups that are praying in unbelief and out of fear. Many are just like the 450 prophets of Baal. These are the heathens that Jesus tells us not to be like them in our prayers using vain repetitions (1 Kings 18:20-40). "But when you pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathens do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." (Matthew 6:7).
