WHAT PRAYER IS NOT ! Before going on any further, let's find out what prayer is not. Prayer is not telling God your problems. Jesus said, Your Father knoweth what things you have need of, before you ask him (Matthew 6:8). For years, I thought to pray was to tell God the problem. No, that is not prayer. Telling God the problem is complaining. Prayer is not trying to change God's mind. God changeth not. Have you ever wonder why Jesus said, "Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18). All heaven will stand behind what you say in prayer if it is the word of God that you are praying. But not only will it work in prayer, it will also work in the things you speak. You can lose the ability of Satan against yourself by the words of your mouth, even in prayer. In (Matthew 6), Jesus is teaching his disciples principles of prayer, and Jesus knew how to teach prayer accurately. If anyone know how to pray, I believe Jesus did. So let's see what Jesus said about prayer: "But when you prayer, use not vain repetitions as the heathens do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not you therefore like unto them: for your Father know with what things you have need of, before you ask him (Matthew 6:7-8). Notice Jesus said that the Father knows the need before we ask Him. So we can determine from the word of God that you don't get your prayer answered because you need it answered. I believe we can safely pull that out of this scripture and say it is an fact from the word of God: prayer is not telling God your need. Some people have prayed, Lord, I need this," and "Lord, I need that." He knows, but He doesn't answer prayer on the basis of need. If He did, there will be no needs. Need is not what moves God; faith in God does. Vain repetitions do not move God; faith does. Much speaking does not move God; the prayer of faith does. Praying the same prayer over and over does not cause God to move; that proves that you didn't believe the first time pray, faith does. Asking according to his That will for asking will move God. When you pray, believe you receive; that move God.
