VAIN REPETITIONS ! "But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do (Matthew 6:7). Remember that we are talking about the prayer of petition. Someone says, "What about Jesus ? He prayed the same prayer three times in the Garden of Gethsemane." That was the prayer of dedication or consecration----"Not My will, Lord, but Thine be done." You can pray the prayer of dedication or consecration over and over, but when it comes to a petition, the very specific and rest in the Word of God. I do not care, what it looks like, what everybody saying, rest in the Word of God ! Remember the 400 prophets of Baal. Elijah said, "You offer your sacrifice and the god that answers by fire, he will be God." So, this is the picture of the hypocrites; So they cried, begged, and pleaded, and Elijah said, "Why don't you cry a little louder; maybe he is sleep." They begin to cry louder and even cut themselves. Again, these are the heathen that Jesus was talking about When He said, Use not vain repetitions as the heathen do. They just Praying the same thing. If you would understand this and receive this, there was no faith in their prayers ! Just as it is in many case of prayer groups. They pray from morning on into the evening to no avail. Then Elijah had 12 barrels of water poured on his sacrifice and prayed a short prayer just once and down came the fire. There was faith in his prayer; he knew that God would hear him ! (1 John 5:14-15). "And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (Word) in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with several and absolute knowledge] that we have granted us as our present possession] the requests made of Him." The amplified by. It is not the length of the prayer that moves God. Nor will you be heard for your "much speaking." God answers prayer on the legal ground of the new covenant. We have authority to you the name of Jesus and the Word of God. "It is written." We have a covenant with the Father through Jesus. Jesus has sealed it with His blood, and God will honor the name of Jesus and His Word. That name and His Word is above every name.
