IT'S IN THE MOUTH -- AND THEN IN THE HEART ! In (Romans 10:6 through 8) Paul the apostle says, "But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, who shall ascend into heaven ? (That is, to bring Christ down from above:) have you ever said come down Lord and touch So and so ! Or, who shall descend into the deep ? Man if Jesus will come back from the dead ! (That is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it ? (What says the Word !) The Word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thine heart; that is, the Word of faith, which we preach." Which we declare or speak ! In verse 6 he tells you what he wouldn't say first, and then he tells you what he should say: in verse 8 he says the righteousness which is of faith says, "The word That is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart." Notice, it first gets in your mouth, it did not say it gets in your head; then in your heart. This corresponds with what (Proverbs 3:3) says: . . . WRITE (these things) on the table of thine heart. Then bring in what David said: . . . My tongue is the pen of a ready writer (Psalms 45:1). Then consider what Jesus said: "A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things. . . (Matthew 12:35). The kingdom of God is as if a man casts seed into the ground. So the apostle Paul says that the Word has to be in your mouth first, then it gets in your heart. That's why I mentioned herein your own voice on a tape recorder or a CD recorder. You can understand that, because your voice is picked up by your inner ear and fed directly into your heart (spirit). That's the way you plant the seed of God's Word in your heart --- by speaking it. Jesus said, in (Matthew 15:6 through 20). "So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefather), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect]. You pretenders (hypocrites) ! admirably and truly did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said: this people draw near Me with their mouths And Honor Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me. Usually do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commandments of men. And Jesus called the people to Him and said to them, Listen and grasp and comprehend this: it is not what goes into the mouth of a man that makes him unclean and defiled, but what comes out of the mouth; this makes a man unclean and defines [him]. Then the disciples came and said to Him. Do you know that the Pharisees were displeased and offended and indignant when they heard this saying ? He answered, every plant which My heavenly father has not planted will be torn up by the roots. Let them alone and disregard them; they are blind guides and teachers. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a ditch. But Peter said to him, explaining this proverb (this maxim) to us. And He said, are you also even yet dull and ignorant [without understanding and unable to put things together] ? Do you not see and understand whatever goes into the mouth passes into the abdomen and so passes on into the place where discharges are deposited ? But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what makes a man unclean and defiles [him]. For of the heart comes evil thoughts [reasoning and disputing and designs) such as murder, adultery, sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander, and irreverent speech. These are what make a man unclean and defile [him]; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him unclean or defile [him]." The amplified Bible
