IMPORTUNITY AND PRAYER : The Bible is an Eastern book and must be interpreted as such. In the Eastern countries where it was written, the people understand, "Ask once and you receive." That is consistent with Jesus" teaching on prayer. Remember He also said not to use Vain repetitions and to believe that you receive when you pray. (James 5:14-15) says, "Is any sick among you ? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." If it does mean to ask and keep on asking, you will have to say that it also means to receive and keep on receiving every time you ask. (James 1:5-through 8), "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wayereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." King James Bible. Now the amplified Bible of the same passages of Scripture's says, "if any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering [no hesitating, no doubting]. For the one who wavers [hesitates, doubts] is like the bellowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asked for] from the Lord. [For being as he is] a man of two minds [hesitating, dubious, irresolute], [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]." Now please understand this when it comes to prayer, it is the prayer of faith that is answered. "If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone ? (Look 11:11). He did not say if he keep asking, the father was finally give it to him. He is saying if your child asked for food, you will give it to him or her. You would make him or her ask 100 more time, then change your mind. Satan would like for you to believe that is what God is like. That kind of thinking will ease you into error and a sinful lifestyle and hold you in bondage. Satan wants to twist the Word of God and distort your image of God. Jesus said, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be open unto you. For everyone that asketh receiveth (v v. 9-10). Jesus said it, and you can be sure Jesus meant what He said. Now, The Word of God should be where you get confidence ! (1 John 5:14--15), "And this is the confidence [the assurance, the privilege of boldness] which we have an Him: Him Who ? The Word [we are sure that if we ask anything [make any request] according to His will, Which Is His Word [in agreement with His own plan], He listens to and hears us. And if [since] we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask. We also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the request made of Him."
